1. I've purchased reMail but now it's asking me to purchase features I already have again!
How to Fix: In reMail, click Settings > Buy > Restore Purchases. You should now have all your features back.
If that doesn't work, send us a message in Settings > Feedback and we'll work with you to resolve this.
Why this happens: The first time reMail starts up after the 2.6 upgrade, it checks for previous purchases, but if you're offline, it fails to activate these features.
2. How does reMail compare to iPhone's Mail Search?
reMail's search is faster, full-text, works offline, and supports advanced queries. See this page for more details.
3. How much space will reMail use on my iPhone?
As a rule of thumb, reMail uses around 5 MB for every 1000 emails in your email account. A typical email account with 30,000 emails will take around 150 MB of space on your phone. A very large email account with 100,000 emails will take around 500 MB. That's around 6% of the storage space of an 8 GB iPhone - the smallest iPhone you can buy.
You can check the amount of space used in the Status screen of reMail. Click on button in the lower-right of reMail's home screen.

4. How quickly will reMail download my emails?
That depends on the speed of your Internet connection and your email server. Generally, reMail downloads around 3000-4000 emails/hour. We recommend connecting your phone to Wifi letting reMail run overnight. You will only need to do that once.
5. Will reMail work on my iPod Touch?
Yes. reMail will work on all devices that have iPhone OS 3.0 or higher installed:
- iPhone (1st generation, 3G, and 3GS)
- iPod Touch (1st and 2nd generation)
6. What order are emails downloaded in?
- When you first start reMail, it will start syncing all email, starting with the newest emails.
- Thereafter, every time you start reMail, it will will start by syncing new emails first
- After all the new emails are downloaded, reMail will resume downloading older emails (if the download didn't finish before)
7. Privacy: Does the reMail app share my email, email address, or password with reMail's servers?
No. All this data is on your iPhone and not sent to reMail's servers. For more information, see this entry.
Email Accounts
8. Will reMail modify any of the data in my email account?
No.
reMail only reads and indexes emails on your server. It will not modify, delete, move any of the emails in any of your folders. The "Delete" action in reMail deletes only reMail's local copy.
However, you do have the option of replying to or forwarding emails, which will cause an email to be sent via the built-in Mail.app.
9. I have more than one email account. Can reMail search them all?
Yes. You can add accounts in Settings > "Add Account ...". You can only add accounts of types that you have purchased support for. When you add IMAP / Rackspace capability, it includes support for multiple IMAP / Rackspace accounts.
10. Can reMail just download specific folders instead of all my email?
Yes. reMail shows a screen to select the folders you want to sync after you've configured the account. If you want to change your selection, go to "Settings", select the account to update settings for, scroll to the bottom, and select "Select Folders ...".
11. What types of email accounts does reMail support?
At the moment, we support IMAP accounts only - but most email providers allow you to access your email via IMAP. Gmail / Google Mail has IMAP access, as do most Microsoft Exchange installations.
12. Does reMail support Exchange accounts?
We don't support the Microsoft Exchange protocol, but a large fraction of Microsoft Exchange setups allow accessing accounts via IMAP. Should your system adminstrator not have IMAP access set up, ask him/her to follow these instructions for Exchange 2007 or these instructions for Exchange 2003.
13. Does reMail support Hotmail accounts?
No. Unfortunately, Hotmail does not offer IMAP access, and that's why reMail can't access those accounts.
14. I'm having trouble setting up reMail with my Gmail account.
Make sure IMAP access to your Gmail Account is enabled. Open up Gmail in your web browser, click "Settings", gi to "POP/IMAP and Forwarding", then enable IMAP access.
15. How can I switch reMail to connect to a different account?
Unfortunately, there's no option to simply switch to another account. In your iPhone Home Screen, delete reMail, then re-install it using the App Store (the download will be free since you have already purchased the software before). Start reMail, and set it up with your new account.
We're working on making this easier in the future.
16. I've changed my email account password. How do I update the password in reMail?
In reMail, select "Settings", click on your account, then edit your password in the "Password" field.
17. I have more than one iPhone / iPod Touch. Can they all connect to the same email account?
Yes.
Email Formats
17. Why doesn't reMail show me the rich-text version of emails?
reMail saves space on the device by not downloading the HTML / rich text version of emails.
18. When are attachments downloaded to the phone?
reMail downloads attachments the first time you open them - therefore, you'll need to be online when this happens. After the first time you open an attachment, it will remain stored on your iPhone for offline access.
19. What types of attachments can I view in reMail?
reMail can view all attachment types that are supported natively by the iPhone:
- Word - doc
- Excel - xls
- Images - jpeg, tif, gif, png, bmp, ...
- Text files - txt, csv, tex
reMail will also open docx and xlsx files from Office 2007, but they will lose the formatting.
20. I like reMail! How can I help spread the word?
Awesome! We've hidden a setting for this in reMail: If you go to iPhone Settings > "reMail" and enable "Promote reMail", it will append a line "I found your email with reMail" to emails you send from reMail. Thanks for your help!

Privacy
21. I'm worried about my privacy. Do you store any of my email on your servers?
reMail does not send any of your personal information back to us. Instead, it communicates directly with your email server to download your emails. None of your emails or personal information will be sent to or stored on reMail servers.

If you use reMail, it will not send your email, email address, or any other personal information back to us.
22. What information does the reMail iPhone application send to you?
The first time you use reMail, it sends us anonomyous information to help us understand our userbase, namely:
- Model of iPhone / iPod Touch you're using
- Version of iPhone OS on your device
- Version of reMail you're using
- An anonymized hash of your iPhone device ID
It does not send us any of your personal data or emails.
23. How can I wipe email data from my iPhone in case it gets stolen?
Your iPhone contains a lot of personal information: Calendars, phone numbers, SMS, email, and other valuable data.
As a first step, we recommend setting a passcode code on your iPhone that will ask for a PIN when you haven't used your iPhone for a while. This can be set up in "Settings" > "General" > "Passcode Lock". You should do this even if you don't use reMail.
If your device gets stolen, you can use Mobile Me Remote Wipe to remotely wipe your device and reset it to factory settings. This will also remove all of reMail's information. You can find instructions here.
Pricing
24. How much does reMail cost?
reMail is available for free in the App Store. The free version supports Gmail / Google Mail accounts only. You can upgrade to use any IMAP account for $3.99, or any Rackspace account for $0.99.
You'll only have to buy IMAP or Rackspace support once - reMail will then let you download email from any number of IMAP or Rackspace accounts.
reMail Search Beta
25. What happened to the reMail Search Beta?
With the introduction of reMail, we've discontinued reMail Search. reMail Search was a server-based search tool for your iPhone. (The new reMail does not use a server).
All user and email data from the reMail Search Beta has been deleted from our servers.
Support
26. I have a problem that wasn't covered here. Where can I find support?
Support for reMail Search is available through reMail's Get Satisfaction page.
Get Satisfaction allows us to answer questions and share that information with others who have encountered the same problems.
27. I have a feature request for reMail.
Cool! Probably best to post it on reMail's Get Satisfaction page.
